Born on October 16, 1966, in Narangodapaluwa, Batuwatte, Gampaha district, Mr. Mahendra Jayasekera emerged from modest beginnings to become a prominent figure in Sri Lankan business and civil society. His father, Hubert Sangadasa Jayasekera, was a mercantile executive at the then Collettes Ltd., specializing in the sale of automobiles like Leyland and Austin Lorries, Holden cars, and John Deer Tractors. His mother, hailing from Ganemulla, served as a telephone operator at the Telecommunication Department. He has two siblings, an elder sister, a physics graduate and teacher, and a younger brother, also a physics graduate and a chartered accountant
Mr. Jayasekera's early education began at Carey College, Colombo, before he joined De Mazenod College, Kandana, in Grade 8. He excelled in his GCE O/L with four distinctions and four credits. Demonstrating an early aptitude for commerce, he became the sole student in 1985 to achieve four "A" passes in the GCE A/L examination, scoring an impressive 321 marks.

His strategic vision led major acquisitions and expansions, elevating these firms to industry-leading positions. Beyond his corporate roles, his influence extends into professional bodies, where he has helped strengthen national standards in finance and governance, leaving a lasting impact on the country’s economic development.

– Spearheaded landmark acquisitions, including Swisstek (Ceylon) PLC in 2003 and Swisstek Aluminium Ltd in 2013, transforming them into industry leaders under his management.
Served as a council member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka and contributed to shaping corporate governance and financial standards.

Since joining the Colombo Young Men’s Buddhist Association (YMBA) board in 2005, Mr. Jayasekera rose through the ranks to become secretary in 2013 and president in 2021. Under his visionary leadership, the Colombo YMBA has been transformed into one of Sri Lanka’s largest and most financially stable civil associations. He has also championed rural community development, expanding YMBA’s outreach programs to support underserved areas across the country, strengthening education, livelihoods, and social services.
As President of the Sri Lanka Ceramics Council since 2011, Mr. Jayasekera has been instrumental in shaping the future of the ceramics sector, advocating for innovation, quality standards, and global competitiveness. His leadership has strengthened the industry’s standing both nationally and internationally.
Demonstrating a deep commitment to improving professional and financial practices, Mr. Jayasekera founded the Sri Lanka Cost and Management Standard Board. As chairman, he has driven efforts to establish robust management standards, supporting the growth and sustainability of businesses across sectors.
A passionate advocate for human resource and community development, Mr. Jayasekera has voluntarily trained over 15,000 Dhamma School teachers. His tireless efforts have elevated educational standards, enriched religious education, and empowered countless youth and educators, particularly in rural areas, helping to uplift communities across Sri Lanka.
